Title: Mobility and aging – from older drivers to autonomous shuttles
Abstract: Dr. Porter’s presentation will briefly cover several studies she has been involved with related to mobility and aging, and more specifically she will highlight findings from studies of older drivers. To start the first section of her presentation will describe a framework for thinking about mobility and aging, and what needs to be considered. Next, she will show findings from studies of older drivers involving education, technology, as well as longitudinal changes in driving across time and in various scenarios. Finally, in this section of the presentation she will briefly outline a new study that has just started on modeling systems using artificial intelligence and autonomous on-demand shuttles for older individuals with mobility impairments. The second section of her presentation will provide an overview of the Centre on Aging at the University of Manitoba. One aspect that she will cover in more detail is some work that the Centre has done on communicating about aging.
